200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Syllabus

Part 1
  • Introduction of Yoga, its meaning and definitions from various authentic scriptures(Aagama).
  • Gradual development in yoga
  • Difference between exercise and yoga
  • Brief introduction of yoga and Sankhya philosophy
  • Ashtanga yoga – mainly yama, niyama, asana and pranayama
  • Human anatomy and physiology in respect to various yogic practices
  • Teaching methodology – ethics, qualities and characteristics of yoga teacher
  • How to learn yoga instead of how to teach
  • Class management
Part 2
1st week
– Loosening practices
– Focus on foundation of asana (standing and sitting asana)
– Introduction and practice of breathing exercise (Pranayama)
– Guided meditation
2nd week
– Focus on proper alignment of asana (standing and sitting)
– Intensifying pranayama practices
– Emphasis on personal practice
3rd week
– Alignment and modifications in various asana
– Teaching aspect.
4th week
– Group teaching
– Intensifying personal practice

At Samatva Yogalaya, we emphasize on imparting our students the knowledge of teaching people rather than just teaching asana. This means we pay attention to modifications, variations and adjustments because yoga must be accessible to all.

There will be a minimum of 2 contact hours spent on ethics for yoga teachers. These topics include yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethical practices. Post dinner practices of meditation and mantra chanting (Ishvara Pranidhana) will enhance your learning further.

Antirheumatic group- wrist, elbow, shoulders, toe, ankle, knee, hip joint movements. Digestive group- simple abdomen twisting, baddha konasana.

300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Syllabus

Part 1
  • Elaboration of origin and expression of yoga per Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali yoga sutra and different schools of Yoga.
  • Important concept of Hatha Pradipika Place of practice, Diet, constructive and destructive aspects. Asana-various types , technique and benefits. Kriyas(cleansing process)-types, technique, effects on psychic level and benefits (physical and psychological cleansing). Mudra and bandhas-various types, technique and benefits
  • Important concept of Patanjal Yoga Sutra. Yoga as a discipline. Concept of chitta and its vrittis. Abhyasa and Vairagya. Factors those accelerate yogic Sadhana. Concept of Ishvara and Ishvarapranidhana.Chitta-vikshepa/Antaraya. Methods of chittaprasadana. KriyaYoga.Concept of kleshas.Yogic view of pain and suffering. Bahiranga Yoga (Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama). Antaranga Yoga (Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi)

Part 2
1st week
– Revision of 200hr ttc yoga practices
– Breathing awareness and Pranayama
– Self-improvement through personal practice
2nd and 3rd week
– Emphasis on proper alignment, modification and adjustment of various standing sitting and twisting asanas
– Focus on proper instruction and cueing
– Intensifying Pranayama practices
– Practice of yoga nidra
– Guided meditation
4th and 5th week
Emphasis on back bend asanas preparation, proper technique and safe mode for getting into back band asana
– Proper practice of inversion poses and advance asanas
– Improvement of teaching skills
– Teaching methodology
– Group teaching
